SBI PO Recruitment: Know the selection process in detail

The State Bank of India (SBI) recruits probation officers (POs) through pre-examination, main written examination, and group personal interview exercises. Prior to the start of the exams for SBI PO, online application forms are invited by eligible graduates. It is only after confirmation of the application of the registered candidates that the admission cards are issued for the SBI PO exams.

The SBI PO exams follow one another. Only candidates who qualify for an exam will be shortlisted for the next step exam.

Currently, the SBI PO 2021 application process is open. Candidates who wish to apply for the exam should go to understand the selection process.

Preliminary examination

  • Objective test
  • Maximum marks 100
  • 3 sections: English language, quantitative aptitude, reasoning skills
  • Separate schedules for each section; 20 minutes each

Main exam

  • Objective test of 200 points and descriptive test of 50 points
  • Applicants must type the descriptive answer on a computer
  • The duration of the objective test is 3 hours
  • The objective test has four sections: Reasoning and Computer Skills, Data Analysis and Interpretation, General / Economics / Banking Awareness and English Language
  • The duration of the descriptive test is 30 minutes
  • The descriptive test will consist of writing a letter and an essay and the total score will be 50 points

Interview, group exercises

  • Given the social distancing and safety measures made necessary due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there may be either interviews or group interviews and exercises.
  • In the event that only the interview takes place, the total score will be 50 points
  • In case interviews and group exercises are organized, the total scores for the interview will be 30 and for the group exercises it will be 20

SBI PO Selection Process: Important Points

  • The marks obtained on the preliminary examination will not be counted in the final merit list.
  • The marks obtained on the main examination as well as the marks obtained during the interview or the interview and the group exercises will be counted when preparing the final merit list.
  • The marks obtained by the candidates on the main examination (out of 250 marks) are converted into marks out of 75 and the candidates’ interview marks (out of 50 marks) are converted into marks out of 25. The final merit list is established after have aggregated (out of 100) the converted marks of the main examination and the interview.
  • The selection will be made among the best candidates ranked on merit in each category.
